LT. GOV. MICHAEL STEELE PRESSES FOR SUDAN DIVESTITURE

Image
from Pension and Investments Online...

Maryland State Retirement and Pension System, Baltimore, was urged by Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele to divest itself of roughly $1.8 billion in investments connected to Sudan, confirmed Bryon Johnston, Mr. Steele’s spokesman.

The $34 billion system has more than $16 billion in five commingled funds and $9 million in 14 separately managed accounts that may include securities invested in companies engaged in business with the Sudanese government, according to a news release from the lieutenant governor’s office. Mr. Steele urged the system to support a bill sponsored by state Delegate Salima Siler Marriott that would require that the system’s investment managers not invest in companies with ties to Sudan. The bill was introduced last year and will be the subject of a hearing on Wednesday.

System spokeswoman Anne Budowski said its investment board is considering the issue and may address divestiture at its next meeting April 14, after the General As…

JOSH BOLTEN: BIOGRAPHY

Image
Joshua Bolten-born August 16, 1955 to Seymour and Analouise of Washington DC, is one of the most powerful men in Washington. Nicknamed “Yosh” by President Bush, loves to bowl and is known to have a great sense of humor.

Bolten is a graduate of St. Albans Prep School, Princeton University and Stanford Law School. He was a former London-based Investment Banker before becoming Deputy White House Chief of Staff and is presently Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Considered to be very competent with his job, Nicolas Calio, former Senior Aide to Both Presidents Bush, says, “he’s one of the most capable people in government but he likes to throw bowling parties. He is famous inside [the White House] for holding the Bolten Pin Tournament.”

Before joining the current Bush administration, he served three years as General Counsel to the US Trade Representative and one year as White House lobbyist for the elder Bush.

Between 1994 to 1999, Bolten was employed as Executive Director…

"MARRIAGE IS FOR WHITE PEOPLE"

from Joy Jones of the Washington Post...

I grew up in a time when two-parent families were still the norm, in both black and white America. Then, as an adult, I saw divorce become more commonplace, then almost a rite of passage. Today it would appear that many -- particularly in the black community -- have dispensed with marriage altogether.

But as a black woman, I have witnessed the outrage of girlfriends when the ex failed to show up for his weekend with the kids, and I've seen the disappointment of children who missed having a dad around. Having enjoyed a close relationship with my own father, I made a conscious decision that I wanted a husband, not a live-in boyfriend and not a "baby's daddy," when it came my time to mate and marry.

My time never came.

For years, I wondered why not. And then some 12-year-olds enlightened me.

"Marriage is for white people."

That's what one of my students told me some years back when I taught a career exploration class for …

SOME MARINES DECLINING EXTRA BODY ARMOR

Image
from ANTONIO CASTANEDA of AP

Extra body armor — the lack of which caused a political storm in the United States — has flooded in to Iraq, but many Marines here promptly stuck it in lockers or under bunks. Too heavy and cumbersome, many say.

Marines already carry loads as heavy as 70 pounds when they patrol the dangerous streets in towns and villages in restive Anbar province. The new armor plates, while only about five pounds per set, are not worth carrying for the additional safety they are said to provide, some say.

"We have to climb over walls and go through windows," said Sgt. Justin Shank of Greencastle, Pa. "I understand the more armor, the safer you are. But it makes you slower. People don't understand that this is combat and people are going to die."

Staff Sgt. Thomas Bain of Buffalo, N.Y., shared concerns about the extra pounds.

"Before you know it, they're going to get us injured because we're hauling too much weight and don't have enough …

WHAT HAPPENED ON THE SUNDAY MORNING TALK SHOWS

from Redstate...

Condoleezza Rice is brilliant. Whoever thought to book her on the Sundays shows this morning is brilliant. She probably did not reach the more conceptually-challenged folks in the DC press corps, and she most certainly didn't enter the cavernous skulls of the dolts in the lefty blogosphere, but here points are ones which ought to be shouted from the palisades and the towers.

Secretary Rice told Tim Russert on NBC's Meet the Press that the removal of Saddam is giving us a "new Middle East" in place of the old one, the one which brought us the attacks of September 11, 2001. On FNS, she said that our disagreement with Russia concerning Iran and nukes is not over the goal – a nuclear-free Iran – but the means to achieve it. On LE, she told Blitzer that the stability he attributes to an authoritarian regime, such as that in Saddam's Iraq, is a "false stability," the kind which fosters terrorism.

What a country!

BLACKWELL HOLDS COMMANDING LEAD OVER PETRO

Image
from the Blackwell for Governor Campaign...

Survey Confirms All Previous Polls

COLUMBUS - A poll released today by the Columbus Dispatch gives Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell a commanding lead in the race for the GOP nomination. The independent Dispatch poll found Blackwell with an 11 point lead over rival Jim Petro. The survey matches the findings of recent polls taken by three national Republican polling firms. The survey also reinforces the results of an Ohio GOP poll released on January 28.

"Ohio's Republican voters trust Ken Blackwell," said campaign chair Lara Mastin. "His steadfast values and rock solid belief system inspire hope in Ohioans. His agenda to rein-in out of control government spending and ignite our economy will carry the GOP to victory in November. "

Blackwell is so well positioned to win the GOP nomination that the Dispatch surmised Petro "must win two out of every three of those uncommitted voters just to draw even as…

THE ECONOMY: THE GOOD NEWS KEEPS GETTING WORSE

Image
from Larry Elder, the Sage from South Central...
In February, our economy created 243,000 new jobs.

Yet one of our major newspapers tells us almost half of Americans consider the economy in a recession. American Research Group's latest monthly survey found 59 percent of Americans rate the economy as bad, very bad, or terrible. Why are Americans so negative?

Compare the first few paragraphs of this particular story by Investors Business Daily to the way the New York Times reported the story.

Investors Business Daily, paragraph 1: "U.S. companies in nearly every sector increased hiring last month, lifting job growth to better than forecast levels and enticing more people into the labor market."

New York Times, paragraph 1: "American employers added 243,000 jobs in February and workers posted their highest salary gains in more than four years, the government reported yesterday, igniting concerns among many Wall Street economists that higher wages could fuel inflation and in…

GOOD VERSUS EVIL IS THE ONLY STRATEGY

Image
Gary Gagliardi: "In a recent article, former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, claims that “Good versus evil isn’t a strategy.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The core of all strategic positions is a philosophy. All wars are battles over philosophy. To be successful, a group has to believe that they are fighting for what is right and good."

IRAQ WAR VETERAN QUITS NC RACE FOR CONGRESS

from Ron Gunzburger...

NORTH CAROLINA. Democats lost one of their highly-touted Congressional challengers on Tuesday. Iraq War veteran Tim Dunn (D) -- an attorney and USMC Reserve Lieutenant Colonel -- ended his campaign against Congressman Robin Hayes (R). Dunn said family obligations were the reason for the withdrawal, although his fundraising had lagged far behind the incumbent. Hayes was viewed as vulnerable because of his vote in support of CAFTA, the free trade deal highly unpopular in the textile mill-laden district. With Dunn out of the race, we're moving it from "GOP Favored" to "Safe GOP."

Another one bites the dust.

MRM ROASTS THE DEMOCRATS

Image
Hi Everyone,

I had a great post about the MSM, but I went off on a tangent and got lost. So instead ... let's roast the loyal opposition.

And here we go...

Q: What's the difference between a Democrat and a trampoline?
A: You take off your shoes before you jump on a trampoline.

Q: What's the difference between a Democrat and a prostitute?
A: The prostitute gives value for the money she takes.

Q: What's the difference between a dead skunk in the road and a dead Democrat in the road?
A: Vultures will eat the skunk.

Q: What's the difference between a Democrat and a catfish?
A: One is an ugly, scum sucking bottom-feeder and the other is a fish.

Q: What do you get when you cross a bad politician with a lawyer?
A: Chelsea.

Q: What do you get when you cross a pilgrim with a democrat?
A: A god-fearing tax collector who gives thanks for what other people have.

Q: Why should Democrats be buried 100 feet deep?
A: Because deep down, they're really good people.

"ALL IS WELL!", SAYS MUGABE

Image
From AP's Angus Shaw...

For the first time in at least 40 years, supplies of Coca Cola dried up Wednesday in yet another sign of crippling economic crisis in Zimbabwe, where people suffer acute bread shortages and farmers warn that worse is yet to come.

Harare agents for Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. said local production of the drink stopped earlier this month, but refused to say why. Bar and cafe owners said they had been promised resumed deliveries at the end of the month, but were told hard currency shortages had prevented licensed bottlers importing the secret concentrated syrup used to mix the popular soft drink.

One sports club in Harare on Wednesday sold imported canned Coke made under license in Malaysia for 100,000 Zimbabwe dollars ($1), double the price of the locally bottled version.

It was the first Coke drought across the country for at least four decades, shop owners said. Throughout the seven-year guerrilla war that ended white rule and led to independence in 1980, Coca-…

MORE DIRTY DEMOCRATIC DECEPTION!

Image
Lauren Weiner, a researcher for Sen. Schumer’s (D-NY) Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is expected to plead guilty to fraudulently obtaining Lt. Governor Michael Steele’s credit report in federal court on Friday. However, Steele’s attorney is asking for assurances that this “doesn't happen again” to any other conservative politicians, or there will be hell to pay!
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, it is a felony to willfully and knowingly obtain information from a consumer reporting agency under false pretenses. Offenders can be fined and imprisoned.

Weiner was Deputy Research Director at the Democratic committee when she began investigating the background of Steele, who is a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
Way to go Lt. Governor, keep the pressure on those bastards! Will Senator Chuck Schumer be the next to bit the bullet?

WOMEN OF IRAQ DARE TERRORISTS, JOIN THE ARMY!

Image
Looks like there may be more reasons for what appears to be the terrorists last ditch killing spree to stop democracy in Iraq - besides being on the wrong side of Human history

According to US Today, the women of Iraq are defying the terrorists as well:

'We can't walk the streets anymore. When you sleep, you know you're not safe." "I have four kids. That's not the life I want for them," says Sondos, who at the age of 30 has signed up for the Iraqi Military!

Sondos is one of 30 women who recently graduated the basic training course for the Iraqi army'’s 1st brigade.

"The Iraqi army is actively recruiting women," said Lt. Col. Fred Wellman, spokesman for Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in charge of equipping and training Iraqi security forces. "They need them. There are certain jobs absolutely necessary to women."

Very interesting. Women in Iraq are joining the military despite threats with death by the Islamic Terrorists. …

WITH HONORS

Image
"These past three years have tested our resolve. We've seen hard days and setbacks. After the fall of Saddam Hussein, the terrorists made Iraq the central front in the war on terror, in an attempt to turn that country into a safe haven where they can plan more attacks against America. ... More fighting and sacrifice will be required to achieve this victory, and for some, the temptation to retreat and abandon our commitments is strong. Yet there is no peace, there's no honor, and there's no security in retreat. So America will not abandon Iraq to the terrorists who want to attack us again. We will finish the mission. By defeating the terrorists in Iraq, we will bring greater security to our own country. And when victory is achieved, our troops will return home with the honor they have earned." - President George W. Bush

DEMOCRATS LOST IN POVERTY

Image
If you've been following the storyline of Michael Steele has he attempts to become the first Republican of African Descent since reconstruction, you might find this article by JC Watts one good read. Here is the article in excerpts.

It seems that some Democrat Party leaders in the great state of Maryland, still foaming at the mouth to bring shame upon the candidacy of a black Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, are aiming more outrageous charges at Michael Steele.

This time, they are trying to wrap Hurricane Katrina around Steele's neck, by linking him to the Bush administration's hurricane response in an attempt to weaken his appeal to black voters.

The absurdity of trying to link the Katrina response to Steele defies any sense of reason. I think anyone who can fog a mirror has already acknowledged that all levels of government were lacking in their response. Steele has done so publicly, and on more than one occasion.

Certainly, if Democrats want to go after Steele for…

THERE SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST THAT!

Gary Gagliardi has an outstanding post at his The Warrior Class Blog about the news media's dogged insistence on lying to the American public-ie. Dan Rather and Newsweek's Koran in the toilet fiasco- about the situation in Iraq when the actual events don't fit their worldview. Maybe it's time we help the media get a new paradigm by passing a law against misrepresenting the news to further thieir outdated liberalized social agenda? All in favor of ripping the media a new one, say "AYE"!

Here are Gary's thoughts on the matter...

My wife and I just happened to watch Rumsfield'’s press conference this morning. Most of it was about how the media reports of “civil war” in Iraq were a complete misrepresentation of the situation there. What was the ReuterÂ’s headline for their article on the press conference? “Rumsfeld says potential exists for Iraq civil war.” In other words, if you say that no civil war exists, you are saying that the potential for civil w…

WHITEHOUSE RELEASES STRATEGIC REPORT ON AL QAEDA

Image
The Whitehouse released its strategy report today that the National Security staff had been working on since June.It is the first full statement of the US strategic position on the war against Al Qaeda and terrorist sponsors since the 2002 report that was written in the run up to the Al Qaeda-focused War on Terrorism.Key Points:Iran is the “single country that may pose the biggest danger to the US.Reaffirms pre-emptive military action as a central tenet of current US security policy.Emphasizes the continued use of diplomatic negotiations to resolve conflicts.Lists the governments of N. Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Belarus, Burma and Zimbabwe as “Despotic Systems.”US must isolate “Despotic Systems” and engage those willing to give up violence.Singles out Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez as “a demagogue awash in oil money” who desires to destabilize the American hemispheres. The Administration needs to bulk up its post-conflict capabilities and …

RICE SAYS U.S. WOULD CONSIDER MEETING IRAN

Image
Iran has offered to begin talks with the United States aimed at stabilizing Iraq, even as Washington maneuvers to confront Iran's nuclear ambitions in the powerful U.N. Security Council.

On Thursday, Iran's top nuclear negotiator and secretary of the country's Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran was ready to open direct talks with the United States over Iraq, marking a major shift in Iranian foreign policy.

Isn't it queer that the day after President Bush reaffirmed his doctrine of preemptive action and a couple of days after the lauching of a new offensive in Iraq, Iran has decided that they might like to discuss their nuclear ambitions with the United States?

Secretary Rice's comment...

"This isn't a negotiation of some kind," Rice said following a meeting in Sydney with Australian Prime Minister John Howard. "If we found it useful to exchange information we'll talk, and if we do it will be about Iraq."

Gotta love it! Rice in 20…
